West Whyalla Football Club
...from the February 2012 e-Newsletter
Corner of Slee Street and Playford Avenue, Whyalla
The West Whyalla Football Club has been serving the Whyalla community since 1942. Having evolved from an Army team, it is now the home of a successful and vibrant club with a community focus.

Known as the Dragons, West Whyalla enters teams in all of the Whyalla Football League’s competitions, from under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 17, through to A-Reserve and A Grade. The club is proud of its sporting achievements, consistently at the top end of the ladder in all of its grades.
Importantly, the club is home for hundreds of junior players and their families. West provides a dedicated and professionally run junior program that makes many families choose to have their child play at West.
West Whyalla also has several affiliated teams that have links with the main club.
West Whyalla Cricket Club has teams in A and B Grade as well as all junior grades.
Warriors Netball Club is also affiliated with the West Whyalla Football Club and uses the club as its social base. Both Warriors and West are large family clubs with the club very busy on game nights.
Throughout its history darts and 8 Ball have been played at the club.
Although the club services the sporting needs of the community, it also provides many options for the community including those not keen on football and other sporting competitions.
The club is an entertainment venue, serving meals several days a week. It can also provide meals for any request, along with table and bar service.

West is regularly used by local organisations for meetings and presentations. Providing a large space that can seat nearly 200 hundred people, it can also cater for anything from weddings to parties to funeral wakes.
West Whyalla also looks to support charitable organisations by providing the clubrooms for fundraisers which have included juvenile diabetes, cancer and leukaemia to name a few. Westies was also an active member of Whyalla Proud.
West has a discrete poker machine room that allows those that wish to play the pokies to do so without it impacting on the rest of the patrons.
The club is always welcoming to new members, families or friends.
